Front Sight Blank .140"
Front Sight Blank is made from 4140 barstock. It utilizes standard Novak sight dovetail dimensions of a .330 width x .075" depth and .625+ width. The blade on this is .300 tall and .140 wide. This is tall enough to be able to work in almost any configuration you would come across. The width of the blade is .140" wide. A tradition front sight blade width is .125" wide. The reason for making the sight blade wider is two fold, it makes the blade stronger. And second, I often found myself needing a wider front sight in order to be able to cover up a Colt front sight tenon hole. Sometimes they are wider than .125, or simply not in the center of the slide, so a standard .125 blade would never cover up the hole. I also find myself cutting the front sight narrower for a large majority of builds. So cutting it from .140 down to .110 or from .125 down .110, really does not make much difference.
To put it simply, as a smith, this is a part that I want for my builds, so that's why I made it.
